Bobby Marietta is the 17 year old son of Jon (Hillbilly) and Patti Marietta of New Salem, Pa. Bobby began racing a Mini Wedge built by Rocket Chassis when he was 11 years old. He also worked on the late model for Hillbilly Racing. Changing gears and checking tire pressure among other things. When the late model engine blew at the end of the season of 2004, they decided to take the time to build a new car for Bobby. Mid season, 2005 Bobby jumped into the seat of a new late model built special by Larry Shaw Race Cars of Arkansas. The cockpit was specially designed to maximize the safety of the small, young driver. He was provided a 358 Ford engine by Vince Gaston of Gaston Lumber. At age 14, Bobby drove the Limited Late Model Division for the remainder of the 2005 season and the later part of the 2006 season at various local tracks. He ran a complete season in 2007, finishing 6th in points at Roaring Knob speedway in Markleysburg, Pa. Bobby has and is learning from some of the best. He has been to Brooks/Shaw Racing School In Arkansas. He also attended Dale McDowell’s Race Strategy School which was held at Joe Gibbs Racing. He has been in several race shops across the country, such as Joel Hedrick’s in Baton Rouge Louisiana, Kelly Bowen of Denver, Colorado, and Dale McDowell‘s in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The 2008 season is proving to look pretty good for Bobby. Now working in an machine shop, Bobby was able to rebuild his own 371 Ford engine with the help of his boss, Dick Rugh. They are also putting together a second Ford motor. This year he moved up to Super Late Model Class. Bobby is doing quite well, proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the very near future. Bobby would not be able to race if it weren’t for his local sponsors. Rosso’s Roofing, All Around Fence Co., Gildea Acres Construction, Shumar’s Welding and Machine and of Course, Dick Rugh’s Auto Parts and Machine Shop.
